Audio Project Documentation:

For the Third project of this course we were asked to develop a sound project that takes the user on a journey with a beginning, middle, and end. After the first zoom meeting my partner and I arranged, we both agreed that we wanted to create a project that is inspired from the worldwide crisis we are all witnessing and to prove that no matter how difficult things can get we will always find a way to connect with each other. Moreover, we both decided that we will work with a general simplistic theme for the project to best deliver our message. After watching a couple of videos on youtube we got inspired by a music video from the perspective of two friends living in separate cities away from each other. Being quarantined in two different cities we found great resemblance in this music video and decided to do something similar. The project is separated into 4 scenes that portray our daily life activities we each get to do away from each other, while one lives in Egypt and the other lives in Korea. For the ending scene, we used the audio and picture while we were facetiming each other as a possible method that can be used to cross barriers. As the user hovers over the pictures, he/she will hear distinctive voices that represent the activities shown in the picture. Additionally, we added the different timings on the picture to show the different time zones and represent one of the barriers that we as a NYU body have to get through.

We also agreed to divide the tasks equally, as each of us handels the editing of the audios we recorded. While Amy focused more on the website itself, I worked on recording, editing, and taking the picture for the ending scene. We also separated working on the texts that appear between the scenes. Although Amy used Audacity to edit the recordings, I prefered working Pro Tools as I had a slight prior experience with this software. For the interactivity part of the project, we focussed on the scrolling mechanism and the hovering technique. While we were both very excited to work on our idea, we were a bit worried that with our lack of experience of audio editing will be a great challenge. I still believe that we were personally able to achieve most of our initial goals and expectations.
